Saturday night, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train went for a wild ride when embers from the Wishes fireworks show sparked a fire on top of the mountain that houses the ride.
A Disney spokeswoman stated that embers from the Wishes fireworks show ignited the flames around 10:30pm. This caused the ride building to burst into flames, lighting up the night sky around the new Fantasyland area.
According to witnesses, the Reedy Creek Fire Department was on scene in minutes to extinguish the fire.
“We believe fireworks fell from the Magic Kingdom fireworks show and the ash landed at the top of the attraction, catching the fake grass on fire,” Bo Jones, spokesman for the Reedy Creek Fire Department, said in a statement. “The fire was contained to just the grass and did not get into the building or structure.”
All passengers were escorted off of the ride without injuries. The ride reopened around midnight (eastern time) and is expected to be open today.
