Look for new experiences involving Mickey Mouse, the Incredibles, “The Lion King,” “Cars” and others at Walt Disney World in 2019, the theme-park company announced Thursday.
Mickey Mouse, who is nearing his 90th birthday, will have an increased presence, if you can believe it, at Magic Kingdom theme park through a Mickey & Minnie’s Surprise Celebration event and the new “Move It! Shake It! MouskeDance It! Street Party” (featuring new versions of classic “Mickey Mouse Club” songs.)
Other changes coming to the parks:
• At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Incredibles characters will take up residence at the former Pixar Place (the one-time entrance of the Toy Story Mania attraction), which will now be a city block of Metroville. Folks will be able to meet Edna Mode, who debuted this year at Magic Kingdom.
Inside the park’s Walt Disney Presents attraction, visitors will be able to meet Mike and Sulley from “Monsters, Inc.”
The previously announced Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy will appear in spring of 2019. His pal Cruz Ramirez will be seen outside the attraction in the shadow of Tower of Terror.
And there’s more Mickey-Minnie in the works for DHS in the form of the previously announced Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway ride set to open sometime next year.
• At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party will celebrate the 25th anniversary of “The Lion King” on Discovery Island. There will also be 3-D photo ops re-creating scenes from the film.
• At Epcot, the Disney on Broadway Concert Series will be back as a seven-day event as part of the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. The fest runs Jan. 18-Feb. 25. The Garden Rocks Concert Series also goes everyday when the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival returns March 6 through June 3.
