I've been researching packages and prices for next year (like I need an excuse), and I came across this in the small print.
This was from the official UK Disney site.
2008
Disney Dining plan £19.99 Adult (12+) £5.99 Child (3-11)
(An exchange rate of just under $2 = £1, ties in with the 2008 prices of $37.99 for adults and $9.99 for children.)
Disney Deluxe Dining plan £36.99 Adult (12+) £10.99 Child (3-11)
Now here comes the shocking part....
2009
Disney Dining plan £25.00 Adult (12+) £10.00 Child (3-11)
Disney Deluxe Dining plan £43.00 Adult (12+) £16.00 Child (3-11)
Thats a mighty price hike and it looks like the dining plan will be costing you nearly $50 a day next year!
I hope this isn't true but thanks for the info debi. I wish Disney would stop changing the dining plan. 2008 they cut it down and now 2009 but have a huge price increase. We are really hoping to try the DDP for our honeymoon but if this is what they are planning for 09 then we may just skip it altogether.

The price of food and everything is going up, the DP and DDP are still going to be a great value, do you think they are going to raise these prices and not the food prices in the restaurant? Nope, the prices in the restaurants are going up too, you can bet on that. We are going to be trying the DDP in July for our anniversary, never tried it before, have always chosen the DP instead. Seen a thing on one of the news networks the other day and Iger said they are already counting on less people coming to Disney because of the financial outlook right now, they are going to be losing money without raising some costs.

Yeah either the price for the food will go up or the portions will go down.

People have already reported that the price of food has gone up in Disney World. Someone said that the cost of buffets are up $2-4. I know that all of the restaurants around here have gone up. Most items a few dollars on the menu.
I sure hope that if Iger is expecting less people Disney will have some better promotions to get people there.

I wonder if they will still offer the dining plan for free. This is how we have been able to go the past few years. The plan is too expensive to pay for otherwise.

I don't think I would worry about that with the way things are going, Disney is expecting less people with the economy taking a nose dive and they use free dining to attract people during slower times, if they start getting hurt by the economy i can see them extending the free dining to get more people in the parks to spend money.

I have my fingers crossed that free dining will be available again next year, like BriarRose, the upfront cost sounds too scary for us and we would end up budgeting for more counter service meals.
Hopefully the price hike means that more changes are coming to the plan next year, maybe Disney are listening to what we said and bringing back the inclusive tip and the choice of appetiser OR desert.
The official US site has no prices up for next year yet, but we will keep an eye on it and as soon as they release information we will pass it on.
I'm hoping we may even luck out if they extend the free dining which I'm thinking is possible. We are going in October next year and if we could get free dining that would be a huge savings. Disney is probably taking a hit with the economy the way it is and will probably be doing more to attrack people into coming down for vacation. With money the way it is a lot of people aren't going on vacation much less a big vacation like Disney. We will have to see. When we booked our room only reservation a couple of weeks ago the woman on the phone said that they may be releasing the 2009 rates early this year so hopefully we'll find out soon about the dining plan. I'm just hoping that they don't change it anymore for the worse.
