For a company that prides itself on being ahead of the technological curve, it's actually quite amazing that Disney is finally jumping on the WiFi train.  For years, resort-goers have wondered why can they get free WiFi at their local Holiday Inn, but have to pay large fees to sniff WiFi while on Disney resort property.

Now mind you, the ability has always been there, as Disney has offered free WiFi to DVC resort guests.

So how does this effect the Disney community here on DLC?

One huge difference will be the number of people capable of streaming their vacations.  Before now, if you were not a DVC member, streaming a trip cam has been quite a chore.

Here at DLC, we are really looking forward to the opportunity to see some new views and takes on the Disney cam movement. The new WiFi locations around the property are listed below:

Everyone remembers the old Disney World Cams.  We reminise about the time that we use to be able to emerse ourself into our most beloved vacation spot just by logging on to DisneyWorld.com.

in the late 90's up until 2001, the official Disney World website hosted an array of park cams.  Ones that were embedded in the parks.

The three original cams were located on Main Street, facing Spaceship Earth, and down Hollywood Blvd.  These were the three cams that started it all.  They were removed in 2001 and were not seen again.  Some have attributed the terrorist attacks of 9/11 as the reason that they are still offline.

In later years, a set of Animal Kingdom cams were brought online as well, but also disappeared in 2001.

Perched high atop Cinderella's castle lies a little Disney secret.  Due to a video that was released this week by Disney, we now know that a live webcam does exist in the Magic Kingdom.

While watching this video, you can see the "Earthcam" watermark in the corner.  This is interesting because Earthcam is a company that supplies webcam services to many public sites.  If you search Earthcam for the Fantasyland cam, you are going to be out of luck.  The Earthcam that Disney uses is a private cam and is not accesssible to the pubilic... or is it.

At the end of the day, it's nice to know that Disney does have some cams around the parks and with a little luck, maybe we will get a taste of these from time to time.
